A KuzSTU doctor of science has joined the secretariat of the UN National Committee

Yuri Manakov, a doctor of biological sciences and head of the KuzSTU Interregional Competence Center for Post-Mining and Ecology in the Coal Industry, has joined the secretariat of the National Committee for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The scientist has been appointed head of the mining sector.

The Russian organization "National Committee for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration" was created as part of a global UN initiative announced for 2021-2030. The Decade aims to halt ecosystem degradation and restore them. It is seen as the last opportunity to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The National Committee was created on the basis of the Commission on Ecology and Sustainable Development of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and began its work on November 27, 2024. The organization's activities are coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) office in Russia and the Moscow Liaison Office with the Russian Federation, as well as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with the active support of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The committee, which now includes a representative from KuzSTU, is designed to promote the achievement of Russia's national goals and fulfill its obligations in the area of ​​international legal regulation of environmental protection.
