Kuzbass-300 Satellite

Kuzbass-300 spacecraft is the first satellite in the history of the region launched into space. It was developed by schoolchildren of Kemerovo, students and scientists of the Kuzbass State Technical University (KuzSTU) on the OrbiCraft-Pro SXC3 satellite platform in CubeSat format of the SPUTNIKS company. The creation and launch of the satellite are dedicated to the 300th anniversary of one of the largest and most developed regions of Russia - the Kemerovo region-Kuzbass.

Kuzbass-300 satellite was launched on August 9, 2022 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The satellite's call sign is RS34S.

With the help of the satellite, schoolchildren and students of the region carry out remote sensing of the Earth as part of environmental monitoring of the territory of Kuzbass from the KuzSTU Mission Control Center. Another feature of the satellite is voice message broadcasting - the first space advertisement is inviting all the inhabitants of the Earth to come to Kuzbass, to its international festival "Yuri Gagarin's Night", which takes place annually in the region.

The features of the first satellite in the history of Kuzbass:

  • maximum weight with payload: 4 kg

  • size: 340 x100x100 mm

  • components: satellite control board, power management, 14 solar panels, battery, camera, positioning system with one degree accuracy - necessary to orient the camera towards the Earth.

  • operating temperature range: -100…+150 °C

  • radio channel frequency - 435 MHz

  • camera: image resolution 1280x960 pixels, focal length 150 mm, spatial resolution from a height of 600 km – 15 to 50 m

  • service life – 4 to 6 months

The payload of the satellite will make it possible to carry out observations, conduct research and track changes occurring on the Earth's surface using a special optical camera. The satellite equipment will transmit to Earth telemetry data, voice messages, as well as images - greeting cards with the 300th anniversary of Kuzbass and photographs from the camera.

The events of "Kuzbass-300 satellite" programme are held within the framework of the scientific and educational project Space-PI with the financial support of the Innovation Promotion Fund.

By the way, in 2022, the Kuzbass State Technical University received a license from the Roscosmos State Corporation for the development of rocket and space technology products.

Radio amateurs from all over the world who have received a signal from the Kuzbass-300 satellite will receive exclusive QSL cards - a document confirming the fact of radio communication. Please, send your application to kuzbass300@kuzstu.ru
