Kuzbass - a year in orbit!

9 August 2023

August 9 is a significant date for Kuzbass and our university. A whole year has passed since KuzSTU sent into space the first satellite in the history of the region «Kuzbass-300».

During this time «Kuzbass-300» transmitted the beacon signal more than a million times, and it was received by many radio amateurs all over the Earth. The satellite made more than 55 thousand turns around the planet, having flown a total of about 250 million kilometers. All changes occurring on the Earth's surface, «Kuzbass-300» continues to transmit to our scientists.

Like other satellites, «Kuzbass-300» faced braking due to the impact of the Earth's atmosphere and dropped from 505 to 455 kilometers in altitude. However, it will have many more years to conduct its research and delight us.

To date, two satellites developed at KuzGTU – «Kuzbass-300» and «KuzGTU-1» – operate in Earth's orbit.

The payload of the «Kuzbass-300» satellite makes it possible to carry out observations and track changes occurring on the Earth's surface with the help of a special optical camera. The satellite's equipment transmits telemetry data, voice messages, as well as images – greeting cards with the 300th anniversary of Kuzbass and photos from the camera.

«KuzGTU-1» helps scientists to determine what loads affect the hull of the apparatus in space. With the help of the experiment, scientists will be able to identify those conditions that affect the lifespan and quality of operation of the spacecraft.
