KuzSTU participates in the development of Russian-African cooperation

1 August 2023

From July 27 to July 28, the Economic and Humanitarian Forum «Russia – Africa» was held at the St. Petersburg Mining University. Within the framework of the event there were plenary sessions, which discussed issues of cooperation, including in the educational and scientific spheres.

Alexander Ermakov, Senior Researcher of the Laboratory of Digital Transformation of Enterprises of Mineral and Raw Materials Complex of KuzSTU, attended the sessions and thematic events on cooperation between Russia and African countries.

“The issues of education, joint work on subsoil development and energy projects became the key issues of the forum. The round tables devoted to cooperation in higher education, fundamental scientific research, transfer of educational technologies and youth projects were attended by top officials from Russia and African countries. Russian universities can serve as an "entry point" for partners from African countries, which in the future will become the basis for large-scale projects”, – said Alexander Ermakov.

One of the key events at the forum was the signing of an agreement on the creation of a professional community of universities called «Nedra of Africa», which will train specialists for the mineral and raw materials complex. The document was signed by representatives of the «Nedra» consortium and an initiative group representing African countries. The «Nedra» consortium includes more than a hundred leading Russian universities, including the Kuzbass State Technical University.

In the near future it is planned to create two offices of the consortium: in St. Petersburg Mining University and in African countries, the location of which will change. Such cooperation will lead to the development of higher education system, enhanced training of competent engineers and competent utilization of natural resources.

The development of Russian-African cooperation opens great prospects for KuzSTU. In the future it will be possible to organize international youth exchange and more in-depth training of specialists in geology, mineral resources development, mining, geodesy and other areas, which are in high demand in Africa.
