World famous sites of Kuzbass

Kuzbass is known not only for its coal, there are tourist sites in the region known all over the world.

Museum-reserve "Tomskaya Pisanitsa"

Petroglyphs in the lower reaches of the Tom River named Tutalskaya, Novoromanovskaya, and Tomskaya have been known since the 18th century. These monuments of rock art cover a huge period of human history - from the earliest times to the early Middle Ages. Thanks to them, we can plunge into the amazing, unknown world of perceptions of our distant ancestors; embrace the universe around them with our own eyes. But the modern museum-reserve "Tomskaya Pisanitsa" is not only a rock-sanctuary with images of people and animals, it is a large scientific, exhibition and tourist center, including a beautiful pine park, an archaeodrome, reconstruction of residential, economic and religious buildings of the peoples of Siberia, geological expositions and even the official residence of Father Frost (our Kuzbass Santa Claus).

Shorsky National Park

On the territory of the Shorsky National Park there are 25 natural monuments, of which the most visited are the Saga waterfall, the Kizass caves, the Nadezhda, Azasskaya, Grandioznaya caves, the Drinking Elephant rock, the Kabuksky railway station, the Soldat outlier ... Near the national park there is a skiing center - Mount Mustag, ‘the pearl of Mountain Shoriya’ - Mount Kul-Taiga with a mountain lake on its top and the ethnographic open-air museum "Tazgol".

Sheregesh Ski Resort

The ski complex was opened in 1981. It was built with the aim of holding the Spartakiad of the peoples of the RSFSR. Since the early 2000s, Sheregesh has been known as a ski resort and has been continuously developing. During this time, the number of tourists visiting Sheregesh increased from 30 thousand per year to 1.5 million per year. The trails are located on the slopes of Mount Zelyonaya at the foot of which there are about 50 hotels and chalets. The ski season lasts from November to May. By the way, in Sheregesh, an excellent hotel complex of the Kuzbass Polytechnic University operates all year round accepting University students and staff for free.

Podnebesnie Zoubia

Podnebesnie Zoubia (Tigir-Tysh ridge) is the main natural pearl of Kuzbass. This territory, amazing in its beauty and variety of climatic zones, is located in the depths of the Kuznetsky Alatau highlands on the very border with Khakassia. Since the 70s of the 20th century, it has become a real Mecca for mountain hiking and water tourism. An extensive network of shelter houses is spread here, hiking routes of various categories of difficulty have been laid. Peaks and passes, mountain lakes, snowfields and glaciers, cedar and larch forests, cascading waterfalls, streams from which you can drink simply scooping up water with your palms - all this is within walking distance. If you are a skier or snowboarder, the wild slopes of Zoubia await visitors in winter with pure snow and stunning views.

Natural monument "Azasskaya cave"

The Azasskaya Cave was chosen by the inhabitants of the region as the home of the legendary Bigfoot - the Yeti. The accessible part of Azasskaya is a picturesque gallery with a monumental entrance. Here, an underground stream emerges on the surface, which originates in the cave of "Kuzbass Speleologists" located three kilometers above. This stream keeps the main secret of the Azasskaya. It is obvious that the caves are in communication, and a grandiose underground system, where no man has yet set a foot on is hidden in the depths of the mountain.

Kuznetsk fortress

At the beginning of the 19th century a fortress was built in Kuznetsk by order of Paul I. The purpose of its construction was to repel the threat from China. The fortress did not participate in hostilities and in 1846 lost its military significance. Now it houses a museum created in 1991. The fortress occupies about 20 hectares. The fortress walls were built with redans (corner ledge). Earthen ramparts are located on the outside of the walls. Inside the fortress, you can see the military structures of the 19th century. In the museum located on the territory of the fortress, you can get acquainted with the military history of the region, the prison castle and other archaeological exhibits.
